New York, NY--Thursday, January 22, 2009

Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, announced today that they have acquired World rights to publish an inspirational book by Queen Latifah, the Oscar nominated, Grammy Award, SAG, Golden Globe winning entrepreneur. The book, not yet titled, is slated for publication in spring 2010.

In making the announcement, Jamie Raab, Executive VP and Publisher of Grand Central Publishing, said, "We are delighted to be publishing Queen Latifah's new book.  Throughout her career, she has consistently taken on new challenges, and through her vision, hard work and great talent has achieved success in so many arenas. What she has accomplished in every facet of her life is extraordinary, and makes for a book of life lessons that I know readers will find deeply inspirational."

Latifah has had amazing success in Hollywood in recent years, and became the first hip hop artist to be crowned with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 4, 2006. She received rave reviews, an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe nomination and a SAG Award nomination for her portrayal as Mama Morton in Miramax's Chicago.  Following Chicago, Latifah starred in Disney's box office hit Bringing Down the House, on which she also acted as executive producer and can also be seen in Beauty Shop, Mad Money, The Perfect Holiday, Set it Off, Hairspray and most recently Secret Life of Bees. Her latest TV Movie, Life Support, in which she was both the star and executive producer, garnered Latifah an Emmy nomination, a Golden Globe win and a SAG Award win.

Her musical talent has earned her a Grammy as well as six Grammy nominations.  Her next album called Persona will be released in April of 2009.  She is both a rapper and singer and in addition to her many albums, she has been featured on more than 20 movie soundtracks. Queen Latifah also started her own music label, Flavor Unit Records and she is currently representing Covergirl Cosmetics with her own line, "The Queen Collection."

Executive Editor Karen Thomas will edit the book. She commented, "We are delighted that Queen Latifah will share her powerful presence with readers from all walks of life. She is an incredible role model for young women and I look forward to working with her."

Carol Mann negotiated the deal with Grand Central Publishing.
