I was on NPR's Talk of the Nation today, which in my book promotion journey is quite a big deal for me. And the interview went great. Save for the babble that clumsily fell out of my mouth in the first few minutes. After the nerves passed, I became more comfortable and hopefully represented for hip-hop. Before THE MESSAGE dropped, I told myself I would be one of those obsessive authors who checks her Amazon ranking everyday--because I know that isn't a true indicator of book sales. Well, never say never. I check it about once a day, which isn't too bad. But today, after the NPR appearance, my ranking was the best it has ever been. Now, I have yet to crack below the thousands, but progress is progress. And right now I'm taking all that I can get.

Switching topics. I wonder what other people think: If a guy/woman is trying to get with you, should it be required that said person read your book? I'm leaning toward yes. Mainly because I'm like, man, if you're really trying to get to know me, you'll get hella insight from my book. And you'll see what drives me. You'll understand why I am "so busy." But maybe that's too much to ask?

Who knows. But I've learned that sometimes the people you think will read your book don't. And the people you don't think wouldn't be interested in your book surprise you.

Again, I take what I can get.
